Coffee Talks

Parent Coffee Talks

The School Counseling Department will offer parent meetings to share topics pertinent to high school success.  All meetings will be held on Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. and will last approximately 1 hour.  Presentations will be available on our website for those unable to attend.  Below is the calendar of the dates and topics.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11: COLLEGE ADMISSIONS PROCESS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
This presentation is essential for parents of college bound students of all grade levels.  The college process is much different than it was in the past.  Come and learn the ins & outs of the application process as well as scholarship information, including the federal financial aid and Bright Futures process.  The more you know, the easier and more successful the process will be for you and your child.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16: DUAL ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES
BOGO SALE!   We are talking dual enrollment.  This means eligible high school students may be able to earn college and high school credit simultaneously. Actually, while the credit is doubled, it is also free.  We’re giving it away!  Now that’s a sale!  Come to our Coffee Talk and learn all about dual enrollment, its guidelines, advantages and requirements.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11: HIGH SCHOOL ACCELERATION METHODS
Does your child qualify for the prestigious University of Cambridge AICE diploma? Did you know that earning an AICE diploma equals 100% tuition and fees at Florida public colleges and universities? Earning college credits by acceleration using AP, AICE, IB, and other methods can save you money and time in college. Come to this Coffee Talk to learn all about this.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 15: THE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR 2026-2027 CLASSES
Don’t expect the Jungle Cruise at Disney with the bad jokes. Instead, come along as our tour guides lead you on a fun and fascinating tour of the course selection process. Stay alert, be vigilant, there are twisting turns and potential pitfalls, but if you stay on track and listen to your guides, you may just discover the elusive treasure of the perfect course schedule tailor-made for your child.

THURSDAY, MARCH 26: DEMYSTIFYING THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS
Your child receiving their acceptance from their college of choice it one of the most wonderful events your family will experience.  Before that happens, there is much work to do.  This Coffee Talk will assist you in beginning the process in order to get to that point.  Come hear from one of our counselors on how to navigate these often-murky waters.
